This past Saturday, I went with my mom to her doctor’s appointment. She was there to get her blood pressure taken and to have some blood work done. We went into the room where they were going to take her blood, and all of a sudden, my stomach didn’t feel right. I thought I was just hungry, so I just shook it off and thought about something else. As they were taking blood from her, I began to feel a bit dizzy. I wasn’t sure why that was because I’m fine around blood. I’ve watched my sisters give birth, and I was fine. I’ve watched other people give blood, and I’ve been fine. I looked down at my mom’s phone to play a game, and the nausea got worse, so I looked up and was reading all of the posters in the room. After that, I don’t remember anything. I apparently had fainted (or “bit the dust”) for the first time in my life.
I remember waking up and thinking, “Why am I on the floor?” Doctors surrounded me. I could hear my mom freaking out and shouting my name. The doctors told me not to get up too quickly, so I took my time. They were asking me if I was okay, and I told them that I felt like I was going to throw up right then, and my head was hurting REALLY bad. The doctors took me into another room, gave me some crackers and water, and told me to try to relax. A female doctor took my blood pressure, and her face looked worried. She called a male doctor in there, and he took my blood pressure. They said that it was EXTREMELY low (we’re talking 60 over something…and a 17yr old female’s normal BP is 120/80). The female doctor stayed in the room with me and kept telling me to eat more crackers and drink more water. Then she told me that my color was coming back, so she called the male doctor into the room again. He took my BP for a third time and it was 109/50-something. He told me that I would be just fine and that fainting is common among teenagers. The doctors asked if anything else was bothering me. I told them that my head was still hurting…ALOT. The male doctor began pushing on my head with his fingers, feeling for any broken bones in my skull. That hurt like crazy! He said that I would probably have a rough bruise (which I have now), and that I shouldn’t go to sleep for a while. After that, both doctors helped me off the bed and into a chair, then left the room. About 5-10 minutes later, the male doctor came back into my room and said, “Wait…they gave you snacks!?!?!” I laughed…which made my head hurt really bad. Then he said, “So if I want a snack, I should pass out and land on the concrete floor…is that what you’re telling me?” We both laughed, and I told him that I wouldn’t recommend it…haha.
My mom came into the room and said that we could leave. She told me how scared she was, then gave me a huge hug. While we were in the parking lot, we called my sister to tell her what had happened. She started freaking out too. Once we got off the phone with her, we went to McDonald’s so that mom could get me some breakfast. I got a yogurt parfait and some orange juice. After that, we went to a donut shop and she got me donuts as well. I told her that I wasn’t that hungry, but she insisted on shoving more food into me. For the rest of the weekend, pretty much all I had was sugar, desserts with sugar, drinks with sugar, oh…and more sugar. It was a pretty eventful weekend.
When we got back to my mom’s house, she was making jokes and saying things like, “You’re such an attention hog. This doctor’s visit was supposed to be about ME, not you!” So I replied by saying, “But mom, the world revolves around me!
” Then my brother-in-law (who is also my pastor) was making jokes about it at church. He said, “When we sing Leaning on the Everlasting Arms, I don’t want you to lean. I want you to hold tightly to the pew in front of you.” Gotta love family…
Anyways, my sister is supposed to be scheduling a doctor’s appointment for me so that we can figure out what’s going on and why I fainted. I guess I better go. We’re going to a preachers’ dinner in Lewisville tonight, and I have no idea what I’m going to wear…so I guess I better figure that out. Thanks for reading my blog today!

Peace. Love. Cheryl.

You scared the pee-waddle outta me! I could see you going down and I had no way to get to you. All I could do was yell for help! DON’T EVER DO THAT AGAIN! Drink plenty of water and keep food in your belly. I love you!
